Human Expo 2010

Now that the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo is in full swing, I assume that I can now post the submission I made to the artbook.  Which is still available for purchase!  Swing on by.

The assignment was “Sci-Fi Adventures.”  So I figured: what if aliens had conventions where they dressed up as humans and thought toasters and Toyotas were cool?

Get Em While They’re Holy

Last chance to get advance tickets for the Calgary Comic Expo, folks! The deadline is April 11, and while you could buy tickets at the door I wouldn’t recommend it. Unless you like lineups!

I’ve been to a lot of conventions, and I can honestly tell you that the Expo is the best one there is. It doesn’t have the sheer scale of San Diego, but Lisa and I stopped going to that because it was TOO big to actually get into anything. And the Expo spanks the pants off anywhere ELSE I’ve been.

So buy your tickets! Stop by Michael and I at table D14, Lisa at D13, and Kyle at D15! (Yep, we own a whole corner.) Bring your grandma!

Spin Rack

After our last convention showing, I really wanted a tabletop comic spin rack!  Partially to decrease the footprint on the table because we’ve got a lotta books!  Also because I’m old enough to remember the spin racks at 7-11 of HEY KIDS Scrooge McDuck comics.

Michael’s Google-fu was strong, and he found the rack at a store in Calgary.  Where they also, randomly, sell these, one of which is living on top of his TV.

Today I printed up the little cardboard stop-the-comics-falling-through-the-bars thingies.  And the sign for the top.

Diaperman 14 is done!

My art blog has been quiet lately!  That’s because all of my art time has been taken up colouring Diaperman issue 14, but as of last night that’s all finished.

Michael has a few pages to letter still, but it’s close!  And it’ll be available at our table at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo.  And our table number?  D14.  I know right.

Now I can work on other things: first up is my Comic Expo artbook submission, then a couple of new prints for this year, then a TDA ashcan, then TDA issue 1.

Then, once all that is finished, I’ll be doing a project all on my own!  That’s a thing, hey.

Straining Brain!

I need ideas for a “sci-fi adventures” print for this year’s Expo artbook. I’m thinking a Calgary tie-in, but that makes it a space western, and “space western” has been really sort of done in the previous years. I’m also thinking of Isaac Asimov’s work, since I grew up on that and I’ve been reminded of it a lot recently, but I don’t really have a VISUAL sense that goes along with that, if that makes sense.

I usually just default to drawing girls. Fans like that. But I don’t want to cop out, either.
